4 out of 5 stars Pretty cool controller, very minor issues.   December 3, 2008
John Gonzalez (Hartford, CT)
I just received this controller (got the black one) and for the most part is a pretty good controller. I like how you have your choice of either installing AA batteries or popping in the included rechargeable one.
The charging cable is like 3 times longer than the one I got from Sony, which helps when you sit far from your tv and need to charge your controller in a hurry.
The weight on this controller feels just a tad heavier than the xbox 360 controller and a lot heavier than the sixxaxis.
The thumbsticks as someone mentioned on a previous review do have a zone gap, where the sixxaxis controller picks up your most tiniest move. But once you get used to it, is not problem.
The trigger buttons take a bit to get use to them. They are a bit akward positioned, or at least feel that way if you have only used the sixxaxis controller. Wish they had been the same as the bumper buttons (R1,L1)or at least as wide.
I hear a lot of complaints on the directional pad, which I do have to say feels very loose, mine even has a weird click, but, I can tell you that it works better than the 360's directional pad in terms of control. I actually like the looseness of it for some weird reason, but thats just me.
The buttons light up red which is pretty cool (if you get the black controller)
The motion sensor works perfect, if not better than the sixxaxis.
There is also vibration on the black one I got.
I have not experienced any disconnects/syncing problems so far.
Overall I give this controller 4 stars to be fair for the extra cable and money saving on batteries, and for the price I got it here on Amazon ($15 on 11/28/2008) but if they had polished on that zone gap on the thumbsticks, loseness on the directional pad and just a bit wider triggers (R2,L2) it would have deserved a 5.

2 out of 5 stars Nyko Zero sucks!   December 3, 2008

I bought the Nyko Zero back in March. At first, I was excited to have a controller that actually rumbles, because I really missed that feature in PS3 games. I was also excited to see that the Nyko was large, as I have large hands. The metal plates on the body seemed to keep my hands cool too. At the time, the only caveat seemed to be that the controller needed a dongle to go wireless. If that were all, I would have been happy. Unfortunately, after I used the controller for a while, its glaring weaknesses began to rear their ugly heads. First, the charge on the included battery pack only lasts for a couple of hours or so, if you're lucky; then you have to connect the cord to recharge it. Second, and worst of all, the damned thing just stopped responding! the "X" and "square" buttons stopped working. I would reset the controller, and it would only work for a while before doing the same thing. Eventually, it just stopped working all together. Nyko clearly rushed this controller to market, knowing that it wasn't really state of the art. Further, because I bought kind of early, It cost me $60.00!! I eventually bought Sony's dual shock 3 controller after its release. Manufacturers should really stop rushing junk to the market to cash in; I used to think Nyko was one of the better after-market companies--but no more.

2 out of 5 stars Yuck, I almost threw up looking at this piece of "stuff"   December 3, 2008

I just received this controller and man....it's officially delegated as the back-up controller for the PS3! I mean, even the 2nd broken one has priority over this!

It reminded me of a 360 controller. I held it in my big hands and noticed something - the buttons are small! I was shocked because it's such a huge controller! I could barely get used to the L2/R2 L1/R1.

The design is garbage. I give Nyko a hand clap for giving me not only a rechargable battery back but also a possibility for just 2 AA batteries...but man, they should have just finished the job and made this for the 360!

This controller(s) *I bought 3* is perfect for extra guests. You hand it to them to let them know they're in your home. Or, you use these controllers and hurt their feelings. Or, you use these yourself when your Sony controller finally gives out.

This would get a 1 star, but I bought them for 5 dollars a piece!

1 out of 5 stars Worst product I ever purchased   December 1, 2008
David E. Swanson (Oregon Il)
When I first purchased this controller I was very impressed with it playing Call of Duty online, but I kept breaking one of either of the R3 or L3 controller stick's. After looking @ them closely the plastic tower going thur the middle was too thin to support much excitment or preasure.
After 3 trade-ins the forth wouldn't recharge the battery pack, the empty battery pack you put 2 AA's would snap in OK but in wouldn't pick up the current. Probaby the same problem with the recharging. Now I just have a controller that set's around collecting dust because there has been so much money in just replacing the original purchase of the first one.
Nyko does have some good products out there, but this isn't one of them!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great product, a must buy   December 1, 2008

I would say this is as good as the original or even better playstation controller
