Memories November 22, 2008 Jerrod Miller (Washington, USA) I got this set to play with my wife (we play Age of Mythology a lot, but wanted to change things up a bit). I have very fond memories of playing AoE, but boy were games different back then. I would only recommend these games for people that played them when they were new, and only for memories' sake. The graphics are exceedingly dated. In fact now that I think of it, my memories are being tainted. They were so great but the drop in graphics quality from what I am used to has kept us from playing the games much. So sad...
Also, we ordered two sets at the same time (one for her and one for me) and both cases were damaged upon receipt to the point where we threw them away and keep the CDs in a CD book. Not too happy with Amazon's packaging there.
Great game - Some multiplayer issues November 19, 2008 Victor H. Carvajal Rivera Overall the game is great to play in your pc, but if can play by internet it has some issues connecting to ESO (multiplayer server). Neverthless its a good game.
Old classics, but they are quite dated. November 1, 2008 William Ely (Euless, TX USA) This game is an old favorite of mine and seemed ground breaking to me when they it was new, but by today's standards, the AI and unit tracking is horrible. Still very fun and addicting however. This boxed set is a great value.
Yes, it will work on Vista if you fiddle around with it enough October 6, 2008 Claire J. 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I played this game when it very first came out, when I was in my early teens. Feeling rather sentimental, I decided to order it despite my fear that it wouldn't work on my brand new computer. I also have an older PC with XP still on it, and figured if the game didn't work with Vista I could always play it on the old PC.
All of the discs installed and loaded without issue on my new PC. The original AOE played with no problems. When I got into AOE II, I did encounter one problem with the graphics. Everything was a weird color. Grass was red, water was green, the trees were blue, and the animals were technicolor. However, going to the Options menu and changing the resolution and graphics quality fixed that problem. It didn't seem to matter which resolution or quality level I changed it to..the trick was getting the screen to reset itself (which changing the graphics quality alone will not do. You must change the resolution as well). When it resets the screen, the graphics look normal. You may have to do it a few times if you encounter this issue. The first time I did it, it worked. The second time I loaded the game and the graphics were messed up, I had to reset the resolution twice before things looked normal again. It would appear that changing everything once does not fix it permanently. You'll probably have to do it almost every time you load the game up. It's a minor annoyance, but not enough to make me return the game since it is "fixable".
Other than that one problem, the game plays just fine. It's as much fun as I remember it being. I spent the majority of my evening building, hunting, and fighting battles. It's truly a great game, and one I love as much now as I did then.
Great Game Collection! October 5, 2008 Ali M. Bazzi I love this game. It is a great strategy game where you also learn history.
